Section 01

What a cookie actually is

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep. It cannot read your hard drive, run software or see other tabs. It simply lets a site remember something between page loads.

Alongside cookies, browsers offer local storage, which works the same way for our purposes. Everything said here applies to both.

Section 02

Strictly necessary

These keep the site working and cannot be switched off from within the site. They hold things like your session state during a form, security tokens that prevent request forgery, and load balancing hints.

They expire when you close the browser or within twenty four hours at most, and they carry no marketing value.

Section 03

Preference cookies

These remember choices you made so the site does not nag you twice.

• Whether you have already dismissed the welcome panel, kept for thirty days.
• Whether you closed the announcement bar, kept for seven days.
• Your audio narration preference, so the reader does not restart on every page.

Section 04

Analytics

We measure which pages get read and which get abandoned, in aggregate. That data tells us where the writing is failing, nothing more.

Analytics identifiers are anonymised, IP addresses are truncated before storage, and no analytics record is ever joined to a named client or an enquiry.

Section 05

What we deliberately do not use

The absence list matters as much as the presence list.

• No advertising or retargeting pixels.
• No cross site tracking or data broker enrichment.
• No social media tracking scripts embedded in article pages.
• No fingerprinting of device or browser configuration.

Section 06

Third parties we do load

Web fonts are served by Google Fonts, which receives the request in order to deliver the font file. Video calls booked through this site take place on Google Meet or Zoom, each governed by its own policy.

Where a page embeds a store link, the retailer sets its own cookies once you follow that link and leave our site.

Section 07

Turning cookies off

Every modern browser lets you block or clear cookies from its privacy settings. In Chrome and Edge look under Privacy and security, in Safari under Preferences then Privacy, and in Firefox under Privacy and Security.

Blocking preference cookies will make the welcome panel and announcement bar reappear on every visit. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may break form submission. Nothing else on the site depends on them.

Section 08

Do Not Track

If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we honour it by disabling analytics collection for that session automatically. You do not need to do anything else.
